The Tamanowas Foundation

About Us

The Tamanowas Foundation is a Indigenous led organization located on the Olympic Peninsula in Quilcene, WA. Our current project focus is the Longhouse for the People and is fiscally sponsored by Well Organized a 501c3. We have a lease of 11.68 acres through, the Tamanowas Foundation, where we have finished building our first traditional style longhouse! Surrounded with our traditional first foods gardens, and more. You can help support us through our Patreon.

This project is to bring back our history. From 1910 to 2019 it was illegal to own or build a longhouse in Aqokulo (Chemakum) territory. We plan on bringing back longhouses while simultaneously creating a gathering space in our community for indigenous and non-indigenous people to gather. This will be a space for spiritual healing, sacred space, education, potlatches and celebrations, and more. The land is primarily for Chemakum - Aqokulo use, but open to all. We are a mixed tribal family enrolled at Quinault.

Our longer term goals also include forming an Indigenous-led land trust.
